Years ago I worked for a senior tech, one day he explained FM units to me. "What's an FM Unit?" I asked, repairing a client's computer. "Fuckin' Magic!" he replied, "See, clients don't care to know about the thousands of hardware engineers, software programmers, etc... that ensure information technology actually functions. Users what to believe technology runs on Magic and it's our job as technicians to translate what exists in the FM Unit to clients. Which is why, as technicians, we are ultimately translators.
